Healthy eating is a priority and commitment to this Scottish Executive Initiative can be evidenced in our new established 'restaurant' style dining room. Young people and staff enjoy a healthy, balanced menu which has been developed by our catering staff in conjunction with the community dietician of the Local Health Authority.
Over the years the Centre has forged good links with Health Professionals who, with our staff, offer services to the young people. Emotional, physical and mental health issues are dealt with through a realistic but sensitive approach.
Medical and Dental needs are serviced locally with the Centre tapping into more specific services as and when necessary.
To encourage healthy lifestyles the Centre offers a full programme of activities both within the school day and during the evening recreation. Young people are encouraged to swim, cycle, skate, dance and trampoline on a weekly basis. The school also has a football pitch and outdoor games area where organised activities take place. The Centre also encourages outdoor pursuits normally provided by authorised outside agencies.
Spiritual well being is also acknowledged. There is a Chaplaincy Service to all young people and staff. Young people regularly take part in activities organised by the Chaplains. The young people and staff organise events to raise money for charities such as "Renfrewshire Rough Sleepers", "Sciaf", "The Children?s Hospice", "Yorkhill Paediatric Unit" and Cancer Care and Research. These projects run in parallel with the Centre's Citizenship Programmes.
